After 12 completed matches and one washout, the IPL 2026 season is starting to show its early-season shape. Punjab Kings sit at the top with 5 points, RCB are the form team with the best Net Run Rate in the tournament, and both KKR and CSK find themselves in unfamiliar territory at the bottom. Tonight's RR vs MI match in Guwahati could shuffle the standings further depending on rain — which is very much a factor tonight.
Here is the complete picture of where every team stands today.

Team-by-Team Analysis
Punjab Kings (PBKS) — 1st, 5 Pts
Punjab are the only team with 5 points at this stage, having picked up their extra point from the rain-abandoned match against KKR at Eden Gardens yesterday. They have won two from three and are looking balanced with both bat and ball. Their bowling has been particularly sharp in the powerplay, and their batting depth makes them hard to dismiss cheaply. Early-season frontrunners.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) — 2nd, 4 Pts
The defending champions are on fire. Two wins from two games with the best NRR in the tournament at approximately +2.10 — meaning they have been winning convincingly, not just winning. RCB is playing with the confidence of title holders and their batting lineup, led by Virat Kohli and Phil Salt, has been setting platforms early in innings that the middle order has been cashing in on. Watch out for RCB this season.
Rajasthan Royals (RR) — 3rd, 4 Pts
Rajasthan has the second-best NRR in the tournament at +2.23, which tells you how dominant their two wins have been. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's 52 off 17 balls in game one was the moment of the season so far. Dhruv Jurel's 75 off 42 in game two sealed a last-ball win against GT. Under Riyan Parag's captaincy, RR look settled and purposeful. If they win tonight against MI, they go joint top on points with PBKS.
Delhi Capitals (DC) — 4th, 4 Pts
Delhi have quietly won both their games and sit fourth on NRR. Their win against Mumbai in their last match was their most complete performance yet. They are not generating as much attention as RCB or RR in the early weeks, but their results speak clearly. One to watch.
Mumbai Indians (MI) — 5th, 2 Pts
MI have one win and one loss — they beat KKR in their opener but lost to Delhi in their second match when Hardik Pandya was absent due to illness. On paper, MI have arguably the strongest squad in the tournament with Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik, Bumrah, and Boult. Tonight's game against RR in Guwahati is an important moment for them to reassert themselves before the table gets congested.
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) — 6th, 2 Pts
LSG are middle of the road at this point — one win, one loss, negative NRR. They have not yet found their best combination and the batting has been inconsistent. The bowling has carried them when needed but the team needs Ravi Bishnoi to... wait, Bishnoi is at RR. LSG will need their spinners to step up as the season moves to spin-friendly venues.
Gujarat Titans (GT) — 7th, 2 Pts
Three games played, one win, two losses. GT lost the last-ball thriller to RR in their most recent game, which will sting. They had the match in their grasp before Dhruv Jurel's cameo changed things. Their batting needs more consistency from the top order and their bowling needs to close out matches better.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) — 8th, 0 Pts
Two losses from two games. SRH were one of the most exciting teams to watch in the last two seasons, but they have not found that rhythm yet in 2026. Their high-octane batting approach has worked against them so far — quick starts have not been converted into match-winning totals. Their bowling has also leaked runs in the death overs. They need a win badly to avoid slipping too far back early.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) — 9th, 1 Pt
The two-time back-to-back champions of 2024 are in early trouble. One abandoned match gave them a point, but they were 25 for 2 after 3.4 overs when the rain came — not a commanding position. Their one completed match was a loss to Mumbai. The Kolkata batting has not clicked, and the pressure on skipper Ajinkya Rahane is already building after a couple of underwhelming showings.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) — 10th, 0 Pts
CSK sit at the bottom with two losses from two, the worst NRR in the tournament at approximately -2.45, and serious questions being asked about their combination. Losing to Rajasthan in game one hurt, but the manner of the loss — chasing a big total and falling well short — raised concerns about their middle-order depth. CSK are an experienced side and have come from behind in seasons past, but they need to find their form quickly before the table gets too hard to climb back.
The Bigger Picture — What We Know So Far
Thirteen matches in (with tonight still to come), a few things are clear. The top four at this point — PBKS, RCB, RR, DC — have all found winning formulas early. The bottom two — SRH and CSK — are yet to register a win.
The NRR battle is going to be crucial later in the season. RR's NRR of +2.23 gives them a significant buffer if they hit a mid-season wobble. CSK's -2.45 is going to need serious repair work even if they start winning.
Tonight's RR vs MI match carries genuine points table significance — a RR win takes them within touching distance of top spot, while a MI win lifts them into the playoff conversation with genuine momentum behind them.
