About 20 people were harmed and around 13 people died on Monday evening, 10 November 2025, when a scary bomb blast happened near the old monument Red Fort (Lal Quila), which is close to the Lal Quila metro station. Massive vehicles were burned or destroyed by the blast. Dr Umar un-Nabi, a 35-year-old, was part of a broad terror bomb blast. He was working at the AI-Falah Medical College in Haryana’s Faridabad.

Around 6:52 p.m., the walker discussed that there was a booming blast near the Red Fort Metro Station Gate no. 1 at the traffic signal on Netaji Subhash Marg, Lal Qila, Chandi Chowk, Old Delhi. Individual in the area came out of their homes. Emergency services - fire trucks, ambulances and police - came to the spot very quickly and put the fire out.

Where Did the Blast Happen?

The bomb blast happened on the Red Fort, where commuters on the road, workers in shops, & drivers of vehicles suffered this blast. Emergency rooms at the hospitals located in the area, especially Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital, were filled with the injured. The doctors stated that there were people with severe burns, cuts caused by the blast, and cuts made by the pieces of the boom objects; the staff and volunteers, who took the patients through the night, were busy with the care of the patients and naming of those who had died. Relatives of the dead came to the hospital.

Thereafter, the blast, local government officers said that they would provide money to the families of the dead and the severely injured people as a settlement package, which is a conventional standard after huge boom blasts.

What Investigators Have Found so Far?

The investigators speedily turned the blast site into a crime scene.

  • The Forensic teams found particles of the bomb on the vehicle or around it; the initial report had specified the use of ammonium nitrate and a mixture of a few components of fuel as the blasting agent. The specialists of the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and the NIA carried out advanced tests in the laboratory.
  • The researcher went through hours of CCTV and traffic camera clips. In one scene, the car was shown parked in the area, moving slowly for a few hours before the blast. Using this footage, detectives established timelines and identified people who might have put or activated devices.
  • Regarding the suspected reconnaissance, several sources had reported that the police found proof that the area had been "checked" - that is, people connected to the criminal had been surveying - on earlier occasions. Authorities mentioned they are investigating whether the attack was planned over days or weeks.
  • Upon the investigation into the car's history and the ownership, the detectives open up their inquiries to other places (including the addresses and institutions that were mentioned in the report). The central agencies have coordinated with state police and other security agencies to follow up on the leads in different areas.

How the Security Response Worked?

  • Delhi Fire Service and local ambulances put out the fires and transfer the injured to hospitals. Police close the area to keep the public away and to secure the crime scene.
  • Bomb squads and forensic people checked the area for more bombs. Then, they collected pieces and residue to test in the lab.
  • The NIA and the NSG came to the help of local police after the government decided that the blast was a case for central investigation. These agencies have more specialised resources for terrorism investigations and counter-terror operations.
  • Metro authorities and traffic police facilitated commuter movement in the vicinity of the incident. Authorities inspected the nearby stations and tightened security at the transport hubs until the area was declared safe.
  • City hospitals sorted out large numbers of the injured and wounded. Officials opened hotlines and family-support services as relatives came looking for news of their missing ones.

Eyewitness Accounts - What People Saw and Said

According to the eyewitnesses, the incident was accompanied by a sudden and very loud explosion followed by a fire that spread rapidly. The people who were close to the traffic signal at the moment said that they had first thought a heavy traffic accident had happened. Some of them stated that they saw dismembered bodies and severely burned vehicles. While some witnesses described the scenes of people dragging each other out of burning cars and attending to the injured until the arrival of ambulances, others just heard such stories. These statements show the terrible experience of people involved in the blast and the disorder that resulted from it in the very first minutes after the incident.

Political Reactions

Such an incident with significant negative impacts near a nationally symbolic location usually results in political leaders acting fast. The public reactions are as follows:

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi: The PM made a heartbreaking announcement for the people who died or were injured during this attack.  Also, he was in touch with the Union Home Minister Amit Shah and security officers for updates on the situation. Plus, on 12 November 2025, the PM meets victims at the LNJP hospital.
  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah: Mr Shah, after the blast visit, examined the response to the incident with the police officials, and visited the injured people in the hospital later. He informed the press that they were following all leads and agencies' central authorities - including the NIA, NSG and FSL.
  • Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta: The Delhi CM took to Twitter to say that she provided an ex gratia of ₹10 lakhs to the families of the victims, 20,000 to those who faced minor injuries in the blast. The local administration also deployed more security forces at the vulnerable locations in the city.

Why Red Fort Matters

The Red Fort (Lal Qila) is more than just a monument visited by tourists. It is a symbol of the nation: The Prime Minister carries out the flag hoisting ceremony there on every Independence Day, and the fort is located in the old and crowded area of the city. An event close to such an icon, therefore, gets a loud voice among the people who show great curiosity and also for its symbolic impact, and because the vicinity is full of residents, people coming for the market and pilgrims.

How Delhi Police React After The Incident

Police increased their security presence in sensitive areas such as government facilities, transport terminals and busy markets, both to give confidence to the public and to make it more difficult for other people intending to commit the same kind of incidents to act.

Officials calmed the people down, informed them that there was no immediate indication of several coordinated attacks, and requested residents to maintain normal life with caution.

It takes time for forensic tests, DNA identification of victims, digital forensics, witness statements and legal procedures. Law enforcement officials informed that they would give the details when they were checked and that courts, if resulting from the case, would follow the proper legal procedures.
