On Friday, 21 November 2025, Fatima Bosch Fernandez from Mexico formally became the 74th Miss Universe after a season full of drama and fuss. Her feat marks Mexico’s 4th Miss Universe crown. The event happens in the Exhibition and Convention Center Impact Challenger Hall in Pak Kret, near Bangkok, Thailand. The 1st runner-up was Praveenar Singh, and the other winners came from the Philippines, Venezuela, and Cote d’Ivoire. Miss Universe is a yearly worldwide major beauty pageant (a competition where participants are selected on personal qualities and skills) that is managed by the Thailand and Mexico-based Miss Universe team.

Fatima Bosch Fernandez: A Strong Winner

Fatima Bosch Fernandez, a Mexican model and the beauty queen born on 19 May 2000 in Teapa, Tabasco, Mexico. She holds a degree in Fashion and Apparel Design from Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City, and then carried on with her studies in Milan, Italy. She had already been a prizewinner, Flor de Oro Tabasco 2018, and Miss Universe Tabasco before she became Miss Universe Mexico 2025. She focused on sustainable fashion, reused materials, and a few selected causes, such as migrants and the environment. Her height is 1.74m (5’9) and her hair color is chestnut.

After being offended in front of many participants, she moved out of the pageant. The executive who berated her also warned that any participant helping her could be eliminated from the competition, and this discussion was recorded and went viral online. The two Miss Universe judges, Lebanese-French musician Omar Harfouch and French football manager Claude Makelele, after the claim of rigging. Although the Miss Universe association refused these claims and stated that confusion may have come from a different event called “Beyond the Crown.”

The Last Question That Decided the Miss Universe 2025 Crown

“If you win the title of Miss Universe 2025 tonight, how would you use this platform to empower young girls?”

Fatima Bosch’s Winning Answer:

“Believe in the power of your authenticity. Believe in yourself, your dreams, and your heart, and never let anyone make you doubt your worth, because you are worth everything and you are powerful and your voice needs to be heard.”

The power of her words was in harmony with the silence that followed, and especially, in contrast, with the staging of the event.

Leadership Changes and Future Questions

The pageant had a change at the top very recently. One of the major changes was the removal of the age limit after Ex-CEO Jakkaphong Jakrajutatip (Anne Jakrajutatip), a Thai transgender media owner, made a slew of new rules to allow transgender women, married women, and mothers to compete. She resigned after her company went bankrupt. Mario Bucaro from Guatemala is the new CEO.

Major Conflict With Pageant Director

The most significant argument was when Nawat Itsaragrisil, a Thai host and organizer, vehemently accused Fatima of not posting the promotional content. When she defended herself, he told her not to speak and even brought security. Fatima left the stage, and several contestants went with her, among them Miss Universe 2024.

Afterward, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum spoke highly of Fatima's self-defense and said that women should always raise their voices and never allow disrespect.

Miss Universe Organisation termed Nawat's behavior as "malicious," and a panel of international leaders was sent to take over the situation. Nawat issued a sorry statement later, but many thought the apology was too late.

More Problems Before the Final Night

There was drama all the way through the event:

  • Judge Omar Harfouch gave up his position, saying the finalists were chosen early.
  • Judge Claude Makelele decided to end his personal leave.
  • Miss Jamaica Gabrielle Henry fell on stage and was taken to the hospital.
  • Miss Great Britain also fell but claimed it was part of her act.
  • Miss Chile shared a TikTok in which she pretended to take drugs and later apologized.

Besides that, political tension appeared as well. Miss Palestine wore a dress depicting the Dome of the Rock, and Miss Israel said she got threats via the internet.
