The 2026 cycle vacancy count is expected to be substantial — but candidates should wait for the official notification rather than relying on unconfirmed numbers circulating online.

Eligibility Criteria

The Mains exam decides your final merit. Performance here determines whether you get selected — so this is where preparation matters most.

Salary and Benefits

One of the strongest reasons to target this exam is the salary package and long-term career growth.

Starting Basic Pay: Rs. 26,730 per month (Rs. 24,050 plus two advance increments for graduates)

Gross Monthly Salary (in-hand including all allowances): Approximately Rs. 46,000 per month — this includes Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, and other perks.

Other Benefits:

  • Provident Fund and Pension
  • Medical benefits for self and family
  • Yearly increments
  • Internal promotion to Officer grade through departmental exams
  • Posting across India

The promotion path is well-structured. A Junior Associate can rise to Assistant Manager, Deputy Manager, and higher officer grades through internal exams — making this more than just a clerk job, but a full banking career.

Fee is paid online only. Once submitted, it is non-refundable.

How to Prepare Right Now

You have roughly four months before the expected notification date. This is a valuable window — candidates who use it well tend to outperform those who start only after the notification drops.

Reasoning Ability: Focus on puzzles, seating arrangements, syllogisms, and coding-decoding. These are the most frequently tested topics and the ones where practice makes the biggest difference.

Quantitative Aptitude: Simplification, number series, data interpretation, and arithmetic topics like percentage and profit-loss are the backbone of this section. Speed and accuracy matter more than depth here.

English Language: Reading comprehension, error spotting, fill-in-the-blanks, and sentence rearrangement. Daily reading of an English newspaper — even 15 minutes — accelerates this section faster than any other method.

General and Financial Awareness: This section is entirely based on current affairs and banking awareness. Follow RBI announcements, Union Budget updates, government schemes, and recent banking sector news. The Knowledge Hub on Nextgen Gpost covers many of these topics in simple language if you want a quick daily read.

Mock Tests: Begin taking full-length mock tests at least six weeks before the exam. Reviewing your mistakes after each mock is more important than the number of tests you take.

How to Stay Updated

The official notification will be published on the State Bank of India careers page — bookmark this now: sbi.co.in/web/careers

Do not rely on WhatsApp forwards or unverified websites for vacancy numbers or exam dates. The only trustworthy source is SBI's official website. Nextgen Gpost will also update this article the moment the official notification is released.
